On Tuesday August 4 2020 an extraordinary Elder-Leader Briefing was held by the Danjoo Koorliny leaders Dr Noel Nannup OAM, Prof. Emeritus Colleen Hayward AM, Dr Richard Walley OAM and Carole Innes, together with other Elders and leaders, as well as the Governor of Western Australia the Honourable Kim Beazley AC, WA Chief Scientist Prof Peter Klinken AC, politicians, members of the WA Police Force, and other Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people.
In response to the respected Elder-Leader Briefing, the Governor (and newly announced Ambassador for Danjoo Koorliny) said, “Between now and the bicentennial of European settlement in Perth, 2029, the community has been invited by the Noongar nation on a walk of spiritual unity and respect.
"We are privileged to share this continent with the oldest civilisation on earth and the only one that survived the ice age. 2029 could be a celebration of snarling triumphalism. This is a powerful state proud of its achievements. Better it should be infused with an appreciation of what was lost but is still here. A people who really understand this land where stories and science permeated the emergence of a rich culture which was the heart of their survival.
"It is now offered to all of us – a spiritual journey which will advance the spirit and character of the whole community. That is worth a celebration.”
