Walking with the Department of Education

Updated: Aug 19, 2021

Danjoo Koorliny Walking Together has been supporting the Western Australian Department of Education with the facilitated planning and design of their Culturally Responsive School Leadership Program.

There have now been two fora with the consultation group, including numerous school principals, who are helping to co-create the program design and content.

The recent, second forum featured a welcome to country by Shaun Nannup; a facilitated session on group norms and agreed principles facilitated by Prof Emer Colleen Hayward; a keynote on Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing by Dr Noel Nannup; an overview of Theory U principles and practices, as well as a mapping exercise, by Katie Stubley; sessions with Kevin O'Keefe on unpacking core concepts and principles around race, as well as an exploration of structures and policies that marginalise or exclude Aboriginal students; a silent walk; program design; and program prototyping.

The day also included a wrap-up and reflective summary by Danjoo Koorliny team members Ezra Jacobs-Smith and John Stubley.

The program design will continue to take shape in the weeks and months ahead.
